Sustainability
Central Carolina Community College's Continuing Education Department is a pioneer in sustainable programs. Sustainable, also called green, programs provide skills and knowledge in meeting one's basic needs through good environmental practices. Most of the classes are taught at the college's Chatham County Campus, in Pittsboro.
Ecotourism
Ecotourism is the fastest growing sector of the tourism industry in the United States. The college's Ecotourism program is the first of its kind in North Carolina, preparing students for employment as ecological tour guides/interpreters, and/or eco-tourism entrepreneurs.
Green Building and Renewable Energy
Green building and renewable energy are two of the most rapidly growing sectors in the United States economy. This program trains students in energy-efficient building techniques, renewable energy applications, and weatherization of existing homes. It also offers NABCEP-certified training and testing in Solar Photovoltaic Systems.
Sustainable Agriculture
Since 1996, the college has offered classes in food-growing methods healthy for the environment, the producer, and the consumer. There are also classes in raising animals for fiber, developing local food systems, and touring sustainable farms. An N.C. Tobacco Trust Fund Commission Skill-Up Grant is enabling the college to offer classes at its West Harnett Center in Harnett County.
