Promise Plus
Free Tuition for Qualifying Non-Recent High School Graduates
Incoming Central Carolina Community College students who graduated from high school more than two years ago may qualify for free in-state tuition and required student fees. Priority will be given to students who do not currently hold a college degree of any kind, although all students can apply to be considered. This program is currently funded by the Chatham County commissioners and is therefore only open to Chatham County residents at this time.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible students must be able to prove residency in Chatham County for at least 12 continuous months prior to entering the Central Carolina Promise Plus program. Residency will be based on the student’s home address and will be verified using county GIS maps upon receipt of the student’s program application. Two different forms of documentation and a photo ID will be required to prove residency. Residents of other counties are not eligible for Central Carolina Promise Plus at this time.
Eligible students will attend Central Carolina Community College as a degree- or credential-seeking curriculum or continuing education student and will join the Promise Plus more than two years past the date of their high school graduation. Each student will be allotted a specific dollar amount, matching the cost of the full-time in-state tuition rate and required fees for the equivalent to a two-year (five-semester) eligibility period.
Eligible students must submit all required items from the Promise Plus checklist to qualify for Central Carolina Promise Plus funding. We are happy to assist students with this process as needed.
*Note: Central Carolina Promise Plus is a last-dollar program. Funding from federal and state grants, scholarships, and outside funding must be exhausted before Promise Plus begins paying. Additionally, Promise Plus funds cannot be used to pay for textbooks or other required course materials, whether physical or digital.
