Promise/K14
Free Tuition for Qualifying Recent High School Graduates
All eligible Chatham, Harnett, and Lee County residents who graduated from a public high school, private school, charter school, or homeschool within the past two years will be guaranteed up to two years of free in-state tuition and required student fees at Central Carolina Community College. Please note:
- Students must submit an application to be considered for the program. The required application link is located in Step 1 of the Promise/K14 Student Checklist.
- Promise/K14 is a last-dollar program. Funding from federal and state grants, scholarships, and outside funding must be exhausted before Promise/K14 begins paying. Additionally, Promise/K14 funds cannot be used to pay for textbooks or other required course materials, whether physical or digital.
Eligibility Requirements
Eligible students must reside in one of CCCC’s service-area counties. Residency will be based on the student’s home address and will be verified using county GIS maps upon receipt of the student’s program application. Residents of other counties are not eligible for Central Carolina Promise/K14.
Eligible students must complete at least 4 classes or 12 credit hours of college-level coursework by the end of the summer term after they graduate from high school. College credit can be earned through Career & College Promise (CCP), AP/CLEP, articulated credit for high school CTE coursework, etc. All applicable curriculum credit(s) must be submitted to and approved by the Student Records and Registrar Office at CCCC to count toward a student's eligibility.
Eligible students must attend Central Carolina Community College as a degree- or credential-seeking curriculum or continuing education student within two years of high school graduation. Students are eligible for K14 for the fall/spring/summer of the first year immediately following their high school graduation, and then the fall/spring of the second year. Promise/K14 is fall-entry only and based on the student’s graduation cohort.
Eligible students must submit all required items from the Promise/K14 checklist to qualify for Central Carolina Promise/K14 funding. We are happy to assist students with this process as needed.

What students are saying about the Central Carolina Promise/K14 program
I received my Associates in the Arts, was able to reduce my financial loans/debt for a university, work on general education courses, come to understand my study and learning styles, meet fantastic and supportive staff, and work in a job I loved - a dance instructor - that helped to push me toward my degree.
Brianna Fehr
This program gave me an opportunity and stepping stool to the beginning of my career. During this time that thankfully I haven't had to pay anything out of pocket, I have been saving up to transfer to a 4-year university. I have goals that I am going to accomplish with time, and I have the promise program to thank for that.

Being a part of this program gave me a sense of comfort and security. It was amazing that I could earn credits and be able to transfer to a university without having to stress about tuition.
If I had not been a part of the program, my experience at CCCC would have been the same, but probably more stressful because I would have to work more hours to cover tuition and fees while still staying on top of my workload from classes.
