Upward Bound Math and Science

Programs

The Upward Bound Math and Science Program at Central Carolina Community College annually serves 60 high school students from the Harnett County School District. The Upward Bound Math and Science Program assists program participants in building the skills and knowledge necessary to pursue and succeed in college majors and careers in the fields of math and science.

The Program has two basic components - the Academic Year program and Summer Academy program. The Academic Year component is comprised of the Saturday Enrichment sessions and and After School support. The Academic Year program is focused on academic tutorials, SAT/ACT preparation, personal and group advising, student leadership activities, college and career readiness workshops, college tours, cultural enrichment, and personal and scholastic motivation.

The Summer Academy is comprised of a six week summer residential experience. Rising 10th and 11th grade students participate in academic classes, electives, tutorials, seminars, career awareness activities, college preparation, financial aid activities, personal and group advising, mentoring, academic advising, and other related experiences, Monday through Thursday, then attend college visits or a cultural enrichment trip on Fridays. Rising 12th grade participants participate in a six week internship in their potential career field throughout the Harnett County area.
