CCCC Employee of the Month!

November Full-Time
Employee of the Month: BJ Thompson

"BJ goes above and beyond her job description to help others. She is the heart of the Library and cares about each and everyone who walks through the doors. She exemplifies what it means to care about equity and access with all patrons and if a resource is not available will advocate to help problem-solve until a workable solution can be found. Even when understaffed, BJ makes sure that everyone feels special and taken care of whatever their needs. She is well respected and a joy to work with at CCCC."

"BJ purchases coffee and treats not only for the Library staff, but for the other employees that share the common space. She listens to her patrons and helps to connect them to resources outside of the Library when their needs are more than just a Library resource."

"When there is a question about the Library and its resources the most common phrase I hear around the college is 'have you asked BJ?' That has to be one of the highest forms of praise from colleagues."

"Each Friday, BJ looks around and thinks of ways to make the Library more accessible and usable for the patrons. She and others have rearranged the space to be more comfortable and adaptive to their studying and collaborative needs. She doesn't wait until the time between semesters. She uses any time when there are less patrons in the space to rearrange and optimize the space. She truly cares for each person and listens to feedback and tries to put it into action as quickly as possible."

Part-Time CCCC Employee of the Month!

November Part-Time
Employee of the Month: Wade Genthe

"Wade is one of the most professional people I have ever worked with. He performs at a high level and never complains. He has fostered a relationship with every law enforcement agency we serve and has encouraged them to work with CCCC to provide for their in-service training."

"Wade will do anything to help anyone. He is consistently helping with the other programs at the ESTC (fire, BLET, NC DPS, etc.) without hesitation. Wade works his schedule around the needs of students and organizations that he is working with."

"One example [of how Wade consistently performs high quality work] is when we first started to provide Basic Corrections Officer training for the NC DPS. Wade helped get the classrooms, equipment, instructors and other needs for these courses of instruction facilitated. He worked very closely with the NC DPS OSDT staff to be sure we met their requirements for these certification courses."

"Wade helps us with any special circumstances that arise. He has helped organize last-minute training opportunities for various first responder agencies. As I stated above, we could not have gotten the NCDPS Basic Corrections Officer Training Program off the ground without Wade's hard work. He is truly one of the hardest working, most professional people I have ever worked with in my entire career. I feel very strongly that he is very deserving of this recognition and will be happy to go into further detail if needed."

"Also, he represents every value in the strategic plan below. Since I was only allowed to check one, I checked people because Wade puts everyone else's needs first. He truly has a servant's heart and does whatever is necessary to help another and get things done."

First-Generation Celebration Days

We are excited to announce that we celebrated over 200 faculty, staff, and students at the CCCC First-Generation event on Nov. 30 through Dec. 2 on all three campuses.

The event kicked off at the Lee Main Campus, then made its way to the Chatham Main Campus, and wrapped up at the Harnett Main Campus.

As CCCC faculty, staff, and students trickled in, they were greeted with hot cocoa and apple cider, and cookies from a local bakery in Sanford. The events were decked out with holiday music and a magnificent balloon arch that participants could take pictures under. As participants stepped through the golden streamers in the doorway, they were greeted by event volunteers.

Our photo booth station captured the moment with a polaroid camera. They say a picture is worth 1000 words, but nothing compared to the inspirational messages left behind on the hand cut-outs that each participant wrote about “What does being first-generation mean to me” or “I support first-generation students because”. We couldn’t let participants walk away with only holiday cheers so we offered them the chance to “Step Right Up and Spin the Wheel”! Where they could win a gift card, prize cup filled with goodies, college supplies, and much more!

TRIO Student Support Services will honor the first-generation participants by displaying all of the inspirational messages and polaroid photos from the event. This “First-Generation Wall of Honor” will be located at Lee Main Campus in Hockaday Hall, Student Center to raise awareness and continue to celebrate CCCC’s first-generation faculty, staff, and students.

TRIO Students Support Services would like to thank the First-Generation Committee that helped plan and bring this event together through their continuous passion and support. A special thanks to the volunteers who made the day of activities come to life and ensure this event felt special. Thank you to all students, faculty, and staff who helped facilitate conversations and awareness. Lastly, we deeply appreciate the special appearances made by Provost Mark Hall and Provost John Mathews and thank Dr. Chapman for their support of CCCC’s first-generation faculty, staff, and students.

New Intranet Link to Portal

In alignment with the CCCC Strategic Plan objective to increase employee satisfaction with communication, Objective Leads Robert Barnes and Trinity Fawcett have arranged to add a new Intranet link to the CCCC Portal. By adding this link to the portal login, they hope to streamline employee access to relevant information available there. The Intranet link provides access to staff announcements, the college calendar, and helpful files sorted by department.

Members of the Strategic Planning Committee hope that this small change will help employees access important information, and will contribute to our efforts to improve employee satisfaction with communication.

Work It Wednesday

During the final "Work It Wednesday" of the fall semester, Whitney Atkins of Hankalily Photographs came to campus and donated her time to provide professional photos for 12 CCCC students. "Work It Wednesday" is a new initiative of the CCCC Career Center to provide employability skills to students to help them prepare for the workforce. Some students took advantage of the free professional clothing from the Ruby McSwain Career Closet for their photos.

Student Jairo Diaz said, "Thank you! [The pictures] turned out great! Go ahead promote more of these opportunities!" The Career Center and Workforce Development Division looks forward to promoting more "Work It Wednesday" events next semester.

Angel Tree

The Angel Tree program had a record number of applicants this year and thanks to our amazing donors, we were able to provide gifts for 101 children.

You read that right. 101!

While our donors will remain anonymous, thank you to those of you who donated gifts to the children this year. This program could also not have been run without the support of the amazing administrative teams at the Harnett, Lee, and Chatham Main Campuses, so many thanks to you all! Thank you to anyone and everyone who helped this program in some way, shape, or form. We could not have done this without you and you have made the CCCC family stronger for our students!
