MAP Team Reports

ACA Team

In August and September, the ACA Team assigned reminders for key tasks to new Fall 2021 students via their electronic GPS Passport. The GPS Passport guides new students in a structured introduction to resources and support as they begin their time at CCCC. Listed below are the newly assigned tasks:

  • Find and meet your advisor
  • Get assistance from your instructors and/or advisor
  • Take care of yourself
  • Make a mid-term plan

The ACA Team incorporated a Career Center overview video into the courses. The video introduces the Career Center, College Central Network, and North Carolina career websites. The video was created by Mary Parker, Career Center Coordinator, as a result of reviewing MAP assessment data on career awareness.

Admissions Team

The Admissions Team were busy enrolling new students for Fall 2021. As a part of MAP Action 2, Admissions Counselors assist students in determining their career decision readiness via the MAP: Embark Assessment. They refer students to a Faculty Advisor, Developmental Faculty Member, or Career Counselor based on their Career Decision Inventory (CDI) results.

Advising Team

The MAP Advising Team sponsors the Advising Short Sessions. These are a series of 30-minute drop-in advising trainings via Blackboard Collaborate. They include a 15-minute presentation and 15 minutes of Q&A with attendees (advisors). The live sessions are recorded for later viewing and topics are selected by CCCC advisors. The Fall 2021 Advising Short Sessions were:

  • Campus Clubs with Katy Jones (September 2021)
  • Advising Syllabus with Scott Byington and Cristy Holmes (October 2021)
  • Embark: Career Interest Inventory with Amy Gustavson (November 2021)

Recordings of the Advising Short Sessions can be viewed via the Blackboard Professional Development organization.

More advisors are completing the Foundations of Advising (advisor training) course! The Blackboard course is self-paced and exposes advisors to a variety of resources and opportunities to reflect on their advising skills and philosophy.

Assessment Team

The QEP Assessment Team continues to review QEP assessment metrics and results. They analyzed 2020-21 assessment data over the summer. The QEP Assessment Team hopes to create dashboards that easily track M.A.P. data.

Marketing Team

The MAP Marketing Team created an advising-focused handout to help students register for Spring 2022 courses. The handout provides an overview of where to find course offerings, how to get help, when to register, and what to do after registering. It was linked from the Advising website.

Success Council

MAP Success Council virtual focus groups were held in November 2021 for current students. Figuring out a career path can be stressful and overwhelming at any age, and CCCC knows that every student has their own unique path to reaching their goals. We wanted to know about more about students’ Academic Pathway – the highs, the lows, and everything in between!

During the focus group session, students were asked open-ended questions about their CCCC experience with new student orientation, advising, academic and career services, campus clubs and organizations, and more! The feedback will help us to continue improving the Academic Advising experience and other student services for current and future CCCC students.
