Community Enjoys First CCCC Tree Lighting, Santa Visit

CCCC and the community enjoyed the first annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Santa visit held on the Lee County Campus, Thursday, December 6, 2012. From the Deep River Fire Truck to the Southern Lee Marching Band to the reading of 'T'was the Night Before Christmas' by CCCC trustee, Julian Philpott, the first annual event was a big hit! The children that came out with their parents seemed to have a great time, and we look forward to next year's event.

News From Green Central

This year resolve to steal some of your regular gift shopping time and replace it with just one special green holiday family tradition in nature. Special time with you is a genuine gift to your loved ones. The memories of making a peanut butter and nuts pine-cone bird feeder with you, and for the animals to enjoy, will be cherished long after boxed gizmos are gone.

  • Star gaze with a hot drink and a warm blanket in the backyard.
  • Go ice skating at a local ice skating rink (there is an outdoor rink in downtown Raleigh).
  • Spread some joy to those in need. Donate food to the food bank; visit a rest home or an elderly neighbor in your neighborhood.
  • Trim a tree--outside! Have children decorate yard trees with suet pine cones, popcorn strings, and corn cobs (for squirrels), then watch to see what visitors show up.
  • Get crafty! Reuse and recreate holiday cards! Each year 2.65 billion Christmas cards are made. Instead of throwing out your old holiday cards, consider donating them to charitable groups that will create new cards - or turn them into new cards yourself.

Cougar Pets News

Pet adoptions are on the rise again! In the past week, we have sent two cats and a dog home. Is there room in your family and your life for a pet? Our candidates for adoption are worth considering. These animals, waiting patiently for permanent homes at the CCCC veterinary medical facility, are healthy, have all their shots, and have been spayed/neutered.

Visit the Cougar Pets website at cougarpets.webs.com for more information and pictures of all the animals that need homes. You can reach Jonathan at (919) 718-7465 or by email at jloftis@cccc.edu if you are interested in adopting.
