Free concerts and photography class offered by CCCC

SANFORD, N.C. — CCCC is offering two free concerts and a free photography class in Sanford in the next two weeks as part of its ongoing Academic and Cultural Enrichment Series.

Support for these events is provided by the Lee County Arts Council and the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural & Cultural Resources.

Punk Rock 101 is a concert, educational lecture, and live question and answer session. Audience members will enjoy a performance by area punk band Oort Patrol, learn about punk rock’s influences, evolution, and cultural impact, and get questions answered by band members.

The event will take place this Friday, April 24, from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. at the Mann Center, on Steele Street in Sanford.

Four days later, on April 28, CCCC is set to present a concert by Mexican-American songwriter d.a.l.i.a., who will perform a collection of original works in both English and Spanish.

The Latin indie pop artist draws from her Western classical music upbringing to write music influenced by her Latin American roots, while exploring themes across the spectrum of the human condition. She will be joined by bassist Jennifer Aikey, guitarist Cameron Rabb, violinist Scott Glasser, and percussionist Zach Baker.

The concert will take place at 7 p.m. in CCCC’s Lee Main Campus courtyard, with a rain location of the Powell Hall gym. Attendees are asked to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets.

Earlier that same day, CCCC will host a free photography class with professional photographer Libby McGowan. In “The Camera You Have: A Beginner’s Guide to Better Photos,” participants will learn the basics of light, composition, and camera settings. Participants should bring whatever camera they use most, whether that is their phone or another device. No experience needed.

Anyone can attend either the session on April 28 from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., or the evening option offered on Thursday, April 30, from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. The classes will be held in meeting rooms 112 and 113 of CCCC’s  Dennis A. Wicker Civic & Conference Center in Sanford.
