Electronics students earn scholarships
SANFORD, N.C. — Two Central Carolina Community College students with promising prospects have received $1,000 scholarships from the Electronics Foundation, a nonprofit organization established by the Global Electronics Association to help develop the next generation of electronics industry professionals.
The awards celebrate students who have demonstrated exceptional achievement, leadership, and passion for the electronics manufacturing industry.
Jennifer Hill is dual-majoring in Laser & Photonics Technology and Electronics Engineering Technology. Hill said studying at CCCC helped her get her current job in her field, working in Raleigh with a company called SMT. She is set to graduate in May.
“Receiving this scholarship motivates me to continue working hard toward my career as both a laser & photonics technician and an electronics engineering technician,” she said. “This support empowers me to stay focused on my studies and build the technical skills needed for a strong future in the industry. I’m deeply grateful for the encouragement and investment in my education.”
Perry Williams is studying Electronics Engineering Technology, Programmable Logic Controllers, and Laser & Photonics Technology. This is Williams’ second time receiving an Electronics Foundation scholarship. He said he put money from the prior year’s award toward a personal lab that he put together at his home.
That equipment helped make it possible to complete classwork from home while participating in an internship that helped him secure his current position with Goodyear.
Williams said instructors at CCCC have been extremely helpful in pointing him towards key scholarships and other opportunities.
“Outside of the classroom, they want you to succeed,” he said. “They want to see you succeed inside of the classroom. I think they just go above and beyond.”
