Funding for the scholarships come from State Employees’ Credit Union members. Each checking account at the credit union comes with a monthly $1 fee, and that money is used to support community projects across the state, including the Bridge to Career Scholarships, offered in partnership with each of North Carolina’s 58 community colleges.

Among the honored recipients was Shajuana Cole of Lillington.

Cole expressed thanks for the scholarship she received to participate in CCCC’s BioWork course, which prepares students for roles in biomanufacturing.

“The instructors really took their time with us and everybody worked together,” she said. “We were like a family.”
