Medical Sonography Overview

Central Carolina Community College's Medical Sonography program educates and trains students to operate special equipment to create images using sound waves, that help physicians diagnose medical conditions.

Medical Sonographers are considered the eyes of imaging. Unlike X-rays, sonography is a radiation-free imaging modality. Sonography provides valuable information for patient care and is used at a variety of different healthcare settings, which include:

  • Hospitals
  • Doctor's Offices
  • Surgical Clinics
  • OB Clinics
  • 3D/4D Facilities
  • Outpatient Imaging Centers

Program Goal

To prepare competent entry-level general sonographers in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains.
