The mission of the Center for Teaching and Learning is to develop and implement meaningful and intentional learning-centered opportunities, foster positive connections, and celebrate achievements and recognitions.
The Center for Teaching and Learning addresses institutional priorities by providing quality services and support to students, the college community, and beyond in the areas of accessible course and content development, course delivery, instructional and technical support, training, and program planning, evaluation and improvement.
Distance Education and audiovisual equipment reside within The Center for Teaching & Learning.
The purpose of professional development is to support the mission of the college by helping employees enhance their job skills, obtain job-related knowledge and information, increase productivity and efficiency, and/or prepare for higher-level positions. In the case of faculty members, it also provides an opportunity for classroom skill enhancement and increased knowledge in their specific academic discipline. All full-time and reduced-hours full-time employees, including both faculty and staff, are expected to take the initiative in promoting their own growth by identifying and participating in professional development activities that will meet their needs and enhance their performance, as documented by performance evaluations. It is also the responsibility of the employee to keep track of his/her own development hours.
Professional development activities may include, but are not limited to: credit and noncredit courses (classroom or online), workshops, seminars, teleconferences, and audiovisual materials, as long as the activity is pre-approved by the individual’s supervisor.
Professional Development Hour Requirement
There will be a minimum number of 5 required hours for full-time and reduced-hours full-time faculty and staff. Professional development hours will be based on what the supervisor and employee agree is a reasonable amount of time required to develop identified needs of the individual.
