SANFORD - The Central Carolina Community College 2021-2022 women's basketball team is looking for continuing improvement, with 13 home games on the schedule.

"My general thought on our women's basketball program this year is that we want to have fun, and also compete for the National Junior College Athletic Association Region X Championship," said Marcel Webster, CCCC women's basketball coach.

"We have four returnees, who are sophomores, who are all solid contributors and who will make an impact in our success this upcoming season," said Coach Webster.

Returnees include, with their respective high schools and hometowns: Zeriyah McKnight (Rocky Mount H.S., Rocky Mount), Kayle Mejia (Lee County H.S., Sanford), Kaiyan Padilla (Northglenn H.S., Denver, Colo.), and D'Naesha Saxon (South Aiken H.S., Aiken, S.C.)

Coach Webster notes that he sees the freshmen class as a team strength.

New members of the team, with their respective high schools and hometowns, are: Jenna Brooks (Capstone Christian Academy, Pittsboro), Felisha Chavez (Montview H.S., Denver, Colo.), Abbygale Elkins (Grace Christian School - Raleigh, Bear Creek), Anna Smith (Marlboro Academy, Rockingham), and Asia Waiters (Seminole H.S., Lake Mary, Fla.)

"I am excited about the good leadership in our returnees and the quality of talent in our incoming freshman," said Coach Webster.
