Meet Your Coaches

In private meetings or small group settings, Success Coaches target students' individual needs and identify appropriate resources. Success Coaches work with students on self-advocacy, goal clarification, motivation, mindfulness, time management, study skills, reading comprehension, and help them create personal plans for academic success. Key to their work is a student-centered approach which builds independence and accountability and encourages students to fully engage with all of the learning opportunities Central Carolina Community College has to offer.

Daniel Berndt

Daniel earned his Bachelors in English with a concentration in Journalism from North Carolina State University. He's currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration along with a Graduate Certificate in Finance at East Carolina University. Prior to his role as Lead Success Coach, he served the college as an Admissions Counselor for health science programs, a Distance Education Advisor, a Success Coach, and as a Math Instructor for Guided Studies. In addition to his role as the Lead Success Coach, Daniel also serves as a Co-Project Lead for the First in the World Grant, a first-year seminar instructor, and as a member of several committees at the college. Daniel has worked for CCCC since 2012 and continues to focus on helping students achieve their academic and career goals. Most importantly, he believes his personal success is determined by the success of those around him. In his spare time, Daniel enjoys exercising, hiking, stand-up paddleboarding, attending live sporting/music events and spending time with his wife, two dogs, family and friends.

Angela Crisp-Sears

Angela Crisp-Sears received her undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in History and Women's Studies. She then attended the other Carolina, earning a M.Ed. in Student Personnel Services in Higher Education and a Graduate Certificate in Women's Studies from the University of South Carolina. She has over a decade of experience working in four year institutions in the areas of Student Leadership Development, Co-Curricular Programming and Student Activities. She joined the CCCC staff in 2014 as a facilitator in the Pittsboro Academic Assistance Center. Angela is very excited to be a Success Coach with the College Success Center.

When not on CCCC's Chatham Main Campus, Angela enjoys playing board games with her family, shopping at local farmers' markets, reading and working crossword puzzles.

Sarah Griggs

Sarah received her Bachelor of Arts in Communication Media and Masters of Education in School Counseling from North Carolina State University (Go Pack!). At CCCC, Sarah hopes to empower students to achieve mental wellness and academic success.

Sarah is a NC native who loves any and all things outdoors, especially the beach! Outside of CCCC you may find her at a concert, trying new food, or soaking up the sun.

Being from a small town in Western NY, Sarah especially enjoys working with students from small communities. She attained her Bachelor's degree in Communication from the State University of New York at Buffalo and her Masters in Higher Education and Student Affairs from The Ohio State University (Go Bucks!). Following graduate school Sarah worked for UNC Chapel Hill before joining the Success Center as the Lead in June of 2014.

In her free time Sarah enjoys going to country concerts, playing soccer, and watching the Bills and the Buckeyes win. She also spends a lot of time traveling to see friends and family.

Kevin Pearson earned his Bachelors Degree in Communications from Hampton University, Hampton, VA. He received his Masters Degree in Management and Leadership from Liberty University, Lynchburg, VA. Kevin's experience in higher education extends from College and Career Readiness within the Continuing Education Division to Student Outreach and Recruitment and as the Coordinator of Accreditation and Quality Enhancement Plan with the Institutional Research Division. He is dedicated to student success and looks forward to working with students to assist them with reaching their goals.

Anthea received her Bachelors in Science in Biology from Purdue University-Calumet. She received her Masters of Science from Purdue University in Animal Science with a concentration in Microbiology/Food Animal Safety. She also received a Masters of Science from NCSU in Crop Science along with a minor in Agricultural Education and Extension. While at NCSU she became a Norman Borlaug Fellow and worked as a food security advocate in Honduras. She has over a decade of research experience in a wide variety of areas such as ecology, animal behavior, microbiology, food safety, food security and agricultural education. She joined CCCC as an adjunct biology instructor in 2015 and is very excited to continue teaching along with being a Success Coach.

In her free time, Anthea likes to read, loves any and all things outdoors and spending time with her family, friends and her fur babies.

Nick Testa

Nick received a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Wilkes University in PA and a Master of Education degree in School Counseling from SUNY Oneonta. He and his wife, Whitney, have lived in North Carolina for four years. He was a school counselor for 3 years prior to becoming the Lee Early College Success Coach. He is very passionate about education and loves working with the LEC students.

In his free time Nick loves watching sports, especially Duke basketball, and having FaceTime sessions with his nieces and nephews . He also enjoys golfing and traveling with his wife. Nick is in his second year as the LEC success coach.
