Chatham Basic Law Enforcement graduates nine

Click to enlarge, Central Carolina Community College’s Basic Law Enforcement Training program in Chatham County graduated nine cadets at a March 30 ceremony at the college’s campus in Pittsboro. Those graduating were (front, from left) Roy Knight IV, Amy Marris, Robert Hussey, and Matthew Bisson; and (back, from left) Cory Tally, David Wallace, Alyson Gardner, Andy Philips, and Jasmine Smith-Andrews. The cadets completed 624 hours of law enforcement training in areas such as criminal and motor vehicle laws, vehicle stops, first responder medical care, firearms training, driver’s training, sheriff’s duties, and subject control/arrest techniques. Each graduate had to pass all 35 blocks of instruction, a rigorous 12-week physical training program, as well as a four-hour written comprehensive state examination administered by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Division. Trooper Christopher Black, of the N.C. State Highway Patrol, was the guest speaker for the graduation. Black graduated from the college’s BLET program in 2003 and started his law enforcement career with the Sanford Police Department.  In 2007, he attended the North Carolina Basic Highway Patrol School and began serving the Highway Patrol in Chatham and Lee Counties.  He has also taught BLET classes for the college.
