SANFORD, N.C. - Central Carolina Community College hosted a Legislative Delegation Breakfast on Thursday, Jan. 11, at the E. Eugene Moore Manufacturing and Biotech Solutions Center in Sanford.

Legislators attending the breakfast included North Carolina Sen. Jim Burgin, Rep. Howard Penny Jr., Rep. Joseph Pike, Rep. Robert T. Reives II, and Rep. John Sauls.

CCCC President Dr. Lisa M. Chapman and Julian Philpott, Chairman of the CCCC Board of Trustees, expressed their thanks to the legislators for their work in support of CCCC and community colleges.

"You are very educated about everything we do here - and we appreciate that," said Dr. Lisa M. Chapman. "You commit the time to know what we do and know how important we are to our community and our region."

Others in attendance included Lillie Rhodes, Legislative Liaison for the North Carolina Community College System; Kirk Smith, Chair of the Lee County Board of Commissioners, and seven members of the CCCC Board of Trustees.

Dr. Chapman and members of the college's leadership team discussed such items as AdvanceNC - a regional workforce development partnership, budget strategies and challenges, multi-campus center funding, discussion of Propel NC -- a proposed new community college business model for a new N.C. economy, and an update on the E. Eugene Moore Manufacturing and Biotech Solutions Center.

With thanks to the Lee County Board of Commissioners for its purchase of the 21.4-acre, 220,000-square-foot former Magneti Marelli manufacturing site, the Moore Center will have the capacity to prepare the workforce for manufacturing needs today and the advanced manufacturing and biotechnology skills for the next generation of manufacturing demands.

"I'm coming to you asking for your support," said Dr. Chapman. "When you support this college, we're doing everything we tell you we are doing and we will do. You can count on this team to do that. ... I know very much how you support us. And I want to thank you today."
