CCCC Employee of the Month!

We welcome back our Employee of the Month recognition. A new feature has been added detailing the qualities our nominee displays.

The purpose of this award program is to show appreciation and recognition of individuals for exceptional contributions and customer service inside or outside of their departments. See the Employee of the Month Guidelines for information and the Employee Nomination Form to recognize a full-time or part-time college employee for their special effort or service. We accept nominations for one week each month (when you receive the email asking for nomination).

Employee of the Month: Christy Jones

Employee of the Month

What qualities or actions of this employee make them deserving of this award? Please be as specific as possible and provide examples.

Christy Jones has displayed outstanding work ethic, has been proactive in problem-solving, has excellent attention to detail, and always has a positive attitude. No matter what is asked of her, she always does her best and far exceeds our expectations on many projects. She is extremely reliable and regularly goes above and beyond her normal duties to help with various tasks and projects in our division. She also has a fun sense of humor and is quick with a joke to lighten the mood when someone is having a hard day.

Provide an example of how this employee performs extra duties beyond those normally assigned.

Christy works for several departments within the division and she is always willing to reach out and help other departments even though she is not a direct report to those departments. She is the first point of contact for the Keller Health Sciences Building, which includes several departments providing information about the building and departments within the building.

She goes above and beyond by not only completing tasks that are required for her job, but she also looks to create ways to make our job easier and more efficient. Christy creates new ways to make the departments function smoothly and this translates to more student success.

Provide an example of how this employee consistently performs a high quality of work.

For Nursing, she maintains rosters in Viewpoint and reaches out to students with reminders for renewals and to follow through on flagged items that if not addressed could keep them out of the clinical sites. She has created and maintains an ordering system for student T-shirts and pinning supplies for both the ADN and PN programs. She communicates with admissions to maintain an evolving list of incoming students. Christy works with the Business Office to ensure clinical contracts are updated and current prior to accessing the clinical sites. Christy has positioned herself to be the first point of contact for our students. Doing this, she is able to address some student concerns much more quickly and provide the students with information promptly without having to wait for faculty. This has allowed trust to be formed between Christy and the students and they see her as part of the faculty team.

For Medical Sonography, she assists with taking inventory and ordering supplies to make sure the lab has the supplies needed for educational success. She recruits and schedules volunteers in the scan lab for the students to practice scanning, making sure they meet the specific criteria for what the students need, such as being in a certain trimester of pregnancy, and collects their information and consent forms when they arrive. She has been assisting with the accreditation process by collecting, scanning, indexing, and saving the numerous documents that need to be compiled for accreditation.

For Veterinary Medicine, she spent hours reformatting and reorganizing the VMT Student Handbook, producing a product that was very professional in appearance and extremely well organized. This saved the program director a tremendous amount of time, and Dr. Browning is very excited to present this new handbook to the incoming students, knowing it will make a huge, positive impact for VMT students.

Provide an example of how this employee volunteers for and works on special projects and/or provides creative suggestions for working conditions.

Christy is the ultimate CCCC employee, putting student success first in everything that she does and supporting the faculty in our division so that they, too, can focus on student success. For these reasons and many more, we are nominating Christy for Employee of the Month.

Which strategic plan value is best represented by this nomination?

Excellence.

Christy Jones

Health Sciences and Human Services Administrative Assistant

How long have you worked for CCCC?
I have worked for CCCC for a little over a year and a half.

What brought you to CCCC?
I was at a place where I was unsure of what I wanted to do. I saw this job posting and said, "Hey, why not?" It wasn't until I was interviewed that I learned what this position was actually for. Nursing, VMT, and Medical Sonography. I had previously worked in the nursing field as a CNA for 10 years and in the veterinary field as a technician assistant for three years. I loved both of those jobs. I began praying after the interview because I knew this was something I would love to do. Helping others from a learning/ teaching perspective.

Describe what you do for CCCC.
I am the Administrative Assistant for our Associate Degree Nursing, Practical Nursing, and Medical Sonography Programs. I work with students, faculty, and staff to assist in any needs that may arise.

Where were you born?
I was born In Sanford.

Where did you grow up?
I moved around a few times in my childhood. I had lived in Florida for many years and also in Bonlee, N.C. I will always consider Bonlee my home.

Where do you live now?
The big town of Bennett! Haven't heard of it? Lots of people haven't. It is between Sanford and Asheboro.

Tell us about your family!
My mother passed away nine years ago at the age of 45. I am lucky to have an amazing dad who is willing to do anything to help when I ask! I have been married for 13 years and we have three beautiful girls ages 18, 12, and 6.

What are some of your hobbies or other interest outside of CCCC?
Anything that gets us out of the house at this point. We like to go walk the creek behind our house, go swimming, and spending time with family.

What is your favorite meal?
I like almost anything home cooked that I didn't have to cook myself!

Anything else you'd like to share with the CCCC family?
Since joining the CCCC community, I have not only made new friends but I feel like I have a new family. Love my CCCC team! Thank you for choosing me to be your July Employee of the Month!

Health & Fitness Science - Virtual Training

The Health and Fitness Science Students are looking for virtual training clients for the Fall 2020 semester. This is a 16-week commitment whereby a HFS student will work with you virtually on your health and wellness goals in terms of exercise and nutrition. There will be no face-to-face training sessions, but the student will prescribe an exercise routine and nutrition plan based on a series of virtual meetings with the client. No exercise can be conducted in the weight room or gym areas on the Lee campus due to COVID-19 restrictions. However, the student can prescribe workouts that can be done at one's home.

If you are interested, please contact Dr. Carl Bryan at cbryan@cccc.edu Again, this is a 16-week commitment as the students are working on a Work Based Learning endeavor and these hours are important to their classwork. Thanks for considering helping these students.

And That's A Wrap

On behalf of the 2019-20 CCCC Planning Council, we are delighted to share with you our 2020-2024 Strategic Plan: Equitable Pathways to Achievable Dreams. The plan was approved by the CCCC Board of Trustees at their regular meeting, and will guide us all as we shape the future of our College over the next five years.

This labor of love is the work of an incredible TEAM that, over the past year, met many times, pored over reams of data, brainstormed, solicited input from all stakeholders, analyzed Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats, dreamed big, and built on the success of our previous Learning First plan. Together we revised Mission, Vision, Values, Goals, and Objectives; and proposed new Key Performance Indicators, Strategies, and Action Items. Hats off to every member of the Planning Council:

As we move into a new Academic year, we hope that you find fresh inspiration in the Plan's emphasis on providing pathways to achievable dreams by cultivating our culture of caring. Please enjoy reading the attached plan in full. We'd love to hear your feedback and welcome your ideas for implementation.

As always, THANK YOU for all YOU do to support our students and communities!

PERSONNEL NOTES

Thank You

I would like to thank my CCCC family members that shared their hard-earned leave with me during my pancreatic cancer illness. It really means so much to me and you hold a special place in my heart. (Through the years of helping others that needed leave time, it made me realize what it really means if you need it.)

After working 19 years and exhausting all the time you have built up, it really hits hard. It seems like all the hard work and years of saving leave time are gone so quickly, but I can truly say that I am so thankful that I had that time to use.

With the blessing of our heavenly Father, I am doing good and plan on returning to work in September.

Love and gratitude,
Debra McNeill

COUGAR PETS

Cougar Pets News

Cougar Pets are proceeding with adoptions for all of our animals who are already spayed/neutered. If the animal hasn't been spayed and neutered, then we notify the applicant that we will hold them until PPE resources become more readily available, and we can get the animal into surgery or we can suggest alternative pets that may have similar qualities for what they are looking for.

We are not able to host any meet-and-greets right now, so we are doing adoption trials in home with pets that we think might be compatible. If they aren't a good fit for the household, then we can pick them up.

Meet Peggy

Cougar Pets

Peggy

My name is Peggy. I am a 1-year-old female that would love to come home with you! I am a sweet girl and enjoy engaging in conversations. Also, I really have fun going after toy mice and rolling around all over the place! I cannot wait to find my furever home where I can have endless conversations and love!

Peggy is currently available for adoption!

Meet Zipper

Cougar Pets

Zipper

My name is Zipper. I am a 1-year-old male that is very loving. It might be because I was born on Valentine's Day! I am a very fun and silly guy that loves to play. I enjoy playing with other dogs and absolutely love toys! A few ways to my heart include walks, treats, and snuggling. I cannot wait to find my furever home!

Zipper is currently available for adoption!

All adoptable dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on all vaccines. They have had regular dental cleanings, blood work, and physical exams. We pride ourselves on the care that our cats and dogs receive during their stay. Contact us at www.cougarpets.org for more information on our colony dogs and available cats.
