WOW! WHAT A TEAM!

Harlem Shake Hits Central Carolina Community College

Students, faculty, and staff came out to participate in our "Harlem Shake" events on all three campuses! The 'Shake' is a recent YouTube video meme craze. Some donned costumes or used props representing programs at the campus, such as practical nursing and early childhood education, while others just wore fun costumes. Charlee Cougar, the college's mascot, was on hand to lead the fun as the group grooved to the tune 'Harlem Shake' by electronic musician Baauer. The videos are posted on YouTube, with a link from the college homepage, www.cccc.edu. You can also see the videos, by visiting www.youtube.com/centralcarolinacc. Thanks to everyone that made these events so fun and exciting!

Relay For Life At CCCC

Vacation time began early on Fri., Mar. 8 as participants in the CCCC Relay for Life Team's "Spring for a Cure" spa event enjoyed their own "getaways" in Sanford. English and Humanities Instructor Summerlin Page pampered co-workers with facials and hand and feet treatments. Products were available for purchase afterward, and Summerlin graciously donated 100% of her Beauticontrol proceeds to CCCC Relay effort. The three-hour "Spring for a Cure" raised a whopping $341!

Co-captains Bianka Stumpf and Amanda Carter extend a heartfelt thanks to Summerlin and all the CCCC employees who enjoyed the relaxation and good company and supported Relay and its mission: "The hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day cancer will be eliminated."

The next event will be another Soup and Sandwich for Life lunch on Wed., Apr. 17, 2013 in the Science Conference Room on the Sanford campus. For just $6 (or alternately, $5 and two canned goods), you'll get a generous take-out bowl of homemade soup (different varieties available) and a half-sandwich (again, different varieties from which to choose). You'll also get a water bottle and a tasty homemade dessert. Contact Bianka or Amanda for tickets. For those participating in EOP's Administrative Professionals Day, we've got your dinner ready! We encourage you to purchase these combos for an easy take-out dinner night at home later.

Relay for Life is a national campaign and walk from the American Cancer Society. A team since 2005, the CCCC Relay for Life team has raised $19,825.97 to date for the cause. Members can still join or contribute. Contact Bianka or Amanda for details or login to www.leencrelay.org for more info.

PERSONNEL NOTES

Cougar Profile

Tanya Gardner

Tanya Gardner
Front Office Support - West Harnett Center

Q.   How long have you worked for CCCC?
A.   CCCC extended an opportunity for employment on October 22, 2012 to which I accepted graciously.
Q.   What brought you to CCCC?
A.   I looked at this as an opportunity to expand my experience and invest in my future since completing my Associate degree in Administration after being in the healthcare field for 24 years. I felt that CCCC would be a great place to work and learn more about the "other side" of the college experience. I am a firm believer that the more knowledge you have about your profession the better you can serve your community and your employer.
Q.   Describe what you do for the College.
A.   I am currently an Administrative Assistant for the West Harnett Center (Barbering).
Q.   Where were you born?
A.   I was born in Chatham County (Siler City).
Q.   Where did you grow up?
A.   I grew up in Chatham County (Siler City).
Q.   Educational credentials?
A.    I am a graduate of Jordan Matthews High School in Siler City N.C. and of the University of Phoenix where I obtained an associate degree in Healthcare Administration.
Q.   Where do you live now?
A.   I currently reside in Sanford.
Q.   Do you have children/grandchildren?
A.    I have two beautiful daughters ages 22 and 19 and one new grandson 3 weeks old.
Q.   What are some of your hobbies or other interest outside of CCCC?
A.    First I must say I love the Lord and he is first and foremost in my life. I am a BIG, BIG, BIG sports fan. I love watching and attending sporting events. I love the Dallas Cowboys, Carolina Tarheels, Baseball, Bull Riding, Bowling, and Drag Racing. My "me time" is spent detailing my cars. That is something I love doing especially in the summertime. I enjoy music, church, and spending time with family.

Dana Stone

Dana Stone
Administrative Assistant, Cosmetology-Harnett Campus

Q.   How long have you worked for CCCC?
A.   I have been a full-time employee beginning, Oct. 29, 2012. I was hired part-time in Dec. 2011 to work as a cosmetology secretary. When the Dunn located closed, I moved to Lillington for a few weeks and then went to Barbering in Aug. 2012 at the Western Harnett Center as secretary. I worked with them till Oct. 2012 when I was hired as a full-time secretary with Harnett cosmetology.
Q.   What brought you to CCCC?
A.   In 2008, I lost my job of 24 years with Morganite, Inc., due to the fact that the company moved to China. Not only did I receive the education that I was hoping for; but I was confident I would be able to face the new and exciting challenges I would have with a new career.
Q.   Describe what you do for the College.
A.   I take care of all the paper work for each student that enrolls in the Cosmetology program at the Harnett Campus. This includes curriculum and continuing education State Board records: grades, attendance, performances, graduation forms, withdraw forms, transfer forms, confidential information on each student and keeping up with new changes from State Board. CCCC records include: enrollment, student documentation, confidential information, making sure that instructors have the proper paper work for each student at the beginning of a semester/anytime that an instructor may need information on a student, and any other services that an instructor or CCCC may require.
Q.   Where were you born?
A.   Jacksonville, Florida (Duval County)
Q.   Where did you grow up?
A.   Dunn, NC
Q.   Educational credentials?
A.    Associate Degree in Applied Science, Criminal Justice
Q.   Where do you live now?
A.   Dunn, NC
Q.   Do you have children/grandchildren?
A.    Daughter-Gina Stone, Son- Ben Stone, Granddaughter- Madison Williams, Grandson-Robert Williams
Q.   What are some of your hobbies or other interest outside of CCCC?
A.    There are so many things that I have an interest in, but only a couple of things that really are close to my heart.

I enjoy spending time helping others. We have so many citizens that need an extra hand to make his/her life better. I enjoy teaching individuals how to become an independent citizen. Helping him/her to overcome any obstacles that he/she may have; seeing an individual achieve goals, and have a better quality of life is so rewarding.

We all take advantage of our lives (ex. walking, talking, and cooking a meal) without giving thought to those that may be just a little different. When it comes right down to it, we all are different in one way or the other. But we are all the same when it comes to learning how to take care of ourselves and how to be independent. As citizens we want the ability to make it on our own. I also love spending time with my family and my four legged children; Monkey (blue-tick) and Bailey (black lab). I am very blessed to have my family, the love, the care, the understanding and the support that we share with each other. I am very thankful every day for Ben, Gina, Robert, Madison and yes Monkey and Bailey. As a family we face all that is given to us; good/bad; and make the best of everyday together.
