Fifth CCCC Foundation Chatham Golf Classic a winner

PITTSBORO - Opportunity was the big winner as golfers wrapped up the fifth Central Carolina Community College Foundation Chatham Golf Classic May 9 at The Golf Club at Chapel Ridge.
A total of 17 teams played in the Classic, combining fun with the serious goal of raising funds to assist CCCC students who need financial help to stay in college. Over $15,000 was raised. The proceeds will be used primarily for scholarships.
"I think the tournament was a huge success," said Jonathan Hockaday, CCCC Golf Classic coordinator. "The support from the Chatham County community and businesses is what helped make this tournament what it was. We are looking forward to having this event for years to come."
The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization affiliated with, but independent of, the college. It receives donations of money and equipment on behalf of CCCC and uses them to promote the educational mission of the college and assist students through scholarships and grants.
The Chatham County Golf Classic was a Four-Person Captain's Choice Flighted competition with three flights. The winners, team scores, and sponsors were:
First Place: 54 - Bobby Powell, Jack Radley, Roy Eubanks, Dale Bryant - Sponsored by Julian Philpott.
Second Place: 57 - Patrick Cothren, Ken Eddins, Brad Blackburn, Rex Williboughy - Sponsored by APC Insurance.
Third Place: 58 - Justin Gaines, David Foushee, Rich Trogden, Daniel Davis - Sponsored by First Bank.
First Place: 64 - Edwin Thomas, McCrae Myers, David Dorner, John Arthurs - Sponsored by Holmes Oil.
Second Place: 64 - Jimmy Stubbs, Jay Harris, Bob Harris - Sponsored by Allen & Son's BBQ.
Third Place: 65 - Trent Reynolds, Ronald Britt, Joe Wood, Jeff Covinton - Sponsored by Mountaire Farms of NC.
First Place: 66 - Barber Holmes, Mark Hall, Neil Peterson, Lee Wilson - Sponsored by Barber Holmes.
Second Place: 67 - Joe Chapman, Davis Belser, Sledd Thomas, Andrew Chankasum - Sponsored by Barber Holmes.
Third Place: 68 - George Lucier, Tracy Hanner, Allen Cannady, Martin Haley - Sponsored by George Lucier.
Closest to the pin winners were Jeff Moore, Justin Petrey, and Steve Agner. Longest drive winner was Reed Blackburn. Sledd Thomas won the putting contest.
Barber Holmes and George Lucier were tournament co-chairmen. Other tournament committee members were Chris Ehrenfeld, Linda Harris, Jonathan Hockaday, and Josh Lee, as well as CCCC President Dr. T. Eston Marchant.
