PITTSBORO - Four members of Grand Trees of Chatham (GTOC) recently led an outdoor adventure camp for Central Carolina Community College's Youth Enrichment Series summer program.

This camp took explorers on field trips to farm, forest, lake, and river habitats. They met interesting people who shared their expertise about the natural world. Campers had four days of activities that combined hands-on learning with recreation and plenty of creative energy.

Through the generosity of GTOC sponsors, two Chatham middle school students attended camp on scholarship.

"The GTOC counselors are already thinking up some fresh ideas to add to the fun next summer," says Andy Upshaw, lead instructor for the camp.

Grand Trees of Chatham is a county committee appointed by the County Manager's office, in partnership with the Chatham County Cooperative Extension. It operates entirely through donations.

The mission of Grand Trees of Chatham is to increase public understanding and appreciation of Chatham County's valuable and irreplaceable trees.
