Click to enlarge, Students from Central Carolina Community College's Upward Bound Math and Science (UBMS) program recently toured the Mertek Solutions Inc. facility in Sanford. Jerry Pedley, Mertek's owner, showed the students around the work area where they had the opportunity to see employees in action doing electrical work, programming robots, and building machines. The UBMS program is designed to strengthen the math and science skills of participating students. The goal of the program is to help students recognize and develop their potential to excel in math and science and to encourage them to pursue postsecondary degrees in math and science, and ultimately careers in the math and science profession. CCCC's UBMS program serves 60 students from Harnett County high schools. For more information on the UBMS program, contact CCCC Director of TRiO Programs Ashley Tittemore at (919) 718-7463 or email ubms@cccc.edu.
