PITTSBORO - Students in Central Carolina Community College's theatre appreciation class recently participated in an evening of poetry and music.

Each fall at the Chatham Campus, students who enroll in theatre appreciation class, in addition to their coursework and three field trips to see live productions, are asked to come up with a class project they have to plan and produce. Theatre students planned the marketing and decorations as well as serving in roles of stage manager, emcee, musicians, or ushers.

Student Government also participated by making the event a part of a food drive for the local food bank, CORA, with free admission to the event with a food donation. The Central Carolina Culinary Institute students participated by providing confections created by the baking class.

CCCC Academic Assistance Center Coordinator Angela Crisp-Sears performed poetry by well-known poet Billy Collins, and faculty member Cathy Griffith presented impressive original poems. Other performances included presentations of original or other poetry by various community members and students, as well as musical performances by students Emmanuel Wood, Curtis Stith, and Alex Thompson.
