Click to enlarge, Students in the Adult Basic Education/GED and Adult High School day classes at Central Carolina Community College's Lillington Adult Education Center spent the month of November learning about hunger at both the world and local levels. Each week, teachers and students explored a new facet of hunger, from food distribution to the effects of poverty. There was also a competition between classes to see how much rice students could donate through the educational Website www.freerice.com . They also brought in non-perishable food items to give to the Harnett County Food Bank, which operates next door to the LAEC. The totals were impressive: 260 food items for the Food Bank and 171,820 grains of rice. According to the World Food Bank, which operates freerice.com , that is enough to feed 400 people for a day.
