SANFORD — The National Junior College Athletic Association has chosen three Central Carolina Community College Lady Cougars volleyball players as among the top in Region X.

Jamie Yeatman, an outside hitter from Benson, and Terran Tysor, a right side hitter from Pittsboro, have been selected by the NJCAA for two of the five positions on the Region X All-Region Team. Delaney Warcup, a setter from Sanford, has been selected for All-Region Honorable Mention.

For the season, Yeatman racked up 12 kills, 3 digs, and 4 aces; Tysor delivered 8 kills, 8 digs, three aces, and one assist; and Warcup ended with 4 kills, 10 digs, one ace, and five assists.

“Jamie, Terran and Delaney are players of great character,” said head coach Bill Carter. “That was demonstrated by their honesty, dedication and commitment to the team. I am proud of the Cougars performance on and off the court. These three ladies have led the Cougars all season in more than just volleyball. I am honored to have had the opportunity to be involved in a small part of their lives.”

The NJCAA Region X Coach of the Year Award was a three-way tie among Carter, Sandhills Community College’s head coach Alicia Hill, and Davidson County Community College’s head coach Kevin Hammond.

“Bill (Carter) has great volleyball instincts and will develop his players,” said Mike Neal, Central Carolina C.C. Director of Student Activities. “Our team is in great hands.”

Carter, who voted for Hill for Coach of the Year, said, “ I would like to commend the professionalism displayed on and off the court by Hill and her players. I believe Hill deserves to be recognized as a top professional coach in our Region.”

Three Sandhills players earned All-Region Honorable Mention: Amber Otkin, Sarah Thomas and Stephanie Powell. Davidson had three players selected for the All-Region Team: Katie Watkins, Whitley Saintsing and Logan Ballue. Watkins is the Region X Player of the Year.
