CCCC set for cross country season

SANFORD - The Central Carolina Community College cross country program is looking forward to the 2022 season.

Richard Briggs, a former assistant coach at Fayetteville State University, serves as the CCCC cross country coach.

"I am very excited about our potential," said Coach Briggs. "To be successful, we need to consistently bring a positive mindset and the rest will follow."

Members of the CCCC men's cross country team are returnee Kyle Howarth (Sophomore, Woods Charter School, Mebane) and newcomer Ethan Morton (Freshman, Western Harnett H.S., Lillington).

Returning members of the CCCC women's cross country team are Emilie Obregon (Sophomore, Triton H.S., Dunn) and Charmaine Robison (Sophomore, Lumberton Senior H.S., Lumberton). Newcomers are: Lillian Bennett (Freshman, Lee County H.S., Sanford), Avery Blegen (Freshman, Harnett Central H.S., Lillington), and Kate Perez (Freshman, Triton H.S., Dunn).

"We have great enthusiasm," said Coach Briggs. "The exciting thing is going to be how they grow and develop as student-athletes and pull it all together when it counts."

The schedule:

Sept. 3 - at Fleet Feet Invitational; Sept. 9 - at Blue Bear Invitational; Oct. 1 - at Hagan Stone XC Classic; Oct. 15 -at Upstate Invitational; Oct. 29 - at National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region X Championship; Nov. 5- at NJCAA Division III National Championship.
