SANFORD - Erica Bell, of Dunn, is Central Carolina Community College's nominee for the Dallas Herring Achievement Award.

The award is established by the North Carolina Community College System to honor the late Dr. Dallas Herring, whose philosophy of "taking people where they are and carrying them as far as they can go" is the guiding principle of the system. The award is given annually to a current or former community college student who best embodies Dr. Herring's philosophy.

Bell, a Culinary Arts student at Central Carolina Community College, hopes to open her own business as a caterer/baker.

"My goal is to become a great chef and that's what I will be," said Bell. "My family is counting on me and I want to make everyone very proud. No one ever said that everything would be easy -- just that it is possible if we believe."
