Essay contest is part of CCCC's Year of Light celebration

LILLINGTON - Central Carolina Community College's International Year of Light 2015 celebration, showcasing the college's Laser and Photonics Technology program, will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 17, at the Harnett County Campus in Lillington. The event is open to the general public.

As part of the celebration, an essay contest is being held for middle school and high school aged students.

The topic of the middle school essay is: "How does light play a role in your life?" The essay should be no longer than one page.

The topic of the high school essay is: "How is light used to help or improve your life and the lives of those around you? This can include education, health, agriculture, production, and environment." The essay should be no longer than two pages.

Essays, which will be eligible for prizes, should be submitted no later than Monday, Nov. 9, at 5 p.m. Students should make sure to include their name, age, and an email address and/or telephone number. Essays should be submitted to CCCC Laser and Photonics Technology Lead Instructor Gary Beasley at gbeasley@cccc.edu. Those who have questions can contact Mr. Beasley by email or at 910-814-8828.
