PITTSBORO - Comedy theater and a gourmet meal are on the menu as Central Carolina Community College acting students team up with the General Store Cafe for a one-night-only benefit event.

On Wednesday, Dec. 15, the popular downtown Pittsboro restaurant, 39 West St., presents a dinner-and-date comedy night, an opportunity to dine out, enjoy some theater and music, and support CORA, the local food pantry. Beginning at 6:30 p.m., patrons can enjoy music, hors d'oeuvres, a gourmet meal, dessert, improvisation, and a one-act comedy.

For this event, CCCC theater students selected the comedy "Check, Please," which follows a series of "interesting" first dates at a restaurant.

"This comedy fits the spirit of the evening, the talents and diversity of the student group, and the General Store performance space," said CCCC acting instructor and theater director Ellen Bland.

General Store Cafe has often participated in benefit events, but incorporating dinner theater is a new idea that Jenn Harrison, the restaurant's events manager, and owner Vance Remmick hope to continue.

Tickets for "Check, Please" are available at the General Store Cafe for $25. Contact jenn@thegeneralstorecafe.com or phone (919) 542-2432. The admission price includes all food, the play, preshow entertainment, and a contribution by the General Store Cafe to CORA food pantry.
