CCCC hosting Sustainability Fair

PITTSBORO - The Central Carolina Community College (CCCC) Pittsboro campus will host a Sustainability Fair - designed to demonstrate and explore many facets of creating sustainable communities - Friday and Saturday, September 23 and 24.

" The fair is an attempt to introduce the community to a variety of sustainable topics and educational programs and to demonstrate how all the elements work together to create sustainable solutions," said CCCC Continuing Education director Sandra McMahon.

The fair opens Friday morning, September 23, with a tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The tour will visit a number of sustainable projects in Chatham County including green building, water recycling, biofuels and organic farming sites.

The fair will continue Saturday, September 24, with exhibits and workshops scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Outdoor exhibits will feature vendors and various sustainable products, processes and hands-on demonstrations. Featured exhibits will include hybrid cars, electric vehicle demonstrations, water recycling systems, sustainable art, solar modules, native plants and green building supplies.

Interested parties can also register to attend workshops on a number of sustainable practices including sustainable agriculture, sustainable transportation, sustainable building and land and water conservancy.

General admission to the Saturday outdoor exhibits is free. The Friday tour costs $25 and a $60 fee is required to attend the Saturday workshops. Those who attend the tour and workshops can do so at a discount rate of $75. All fees include lunch.

The Sustainability Fair is sponsored by CCCC, Piedmont Biofuels, the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Carolina Country Builders, Alicia Ravetto and AIA.
