CCCC Foundation Golf Classic tees off

09.12.2008 • Foundation

SANFORD – Golfers are getting ready to tee off at the Central Carolina Community College Foundation’s 19th Annual Golf Classic, to be held Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Quail Ridge Golf Course.

In just the past four years, the Golf Classic has raised more than $100,000. The proceeds provide scholarships for the college’s students, help fund summer technology camps for area youth, and provide some tuition reimbursement for faculty continuing education, according to Diane Glover, Foundation director.

The Golf Classic is always a lot of fun for the participants, with plenty of action on the 18-hole course. Last year’s event attracted about 180 golfers from Lee, Harnett, and Chatham counties.

The morning tournament format will be “Captain’s Choice,” with tee time at 8:30 a.m. The afternoon features “Best Ball” play in low gross and low net divisions, with a 1:30 p.m. tee time. There will be longest drive, closest-to-pin and putting contests during both tournaments.

“For 19 years, I have been a member of the CCCC Foundation and helped put on this golf tournament,” said Phil Bradley, Golf Classic chairman. “This tournament helps the Foundation fund many needed scholarships, provide financial assistance to support the college, and provide a major portion of the Foundation’s unrestricted funding for the year. Last year we assisted over 200 deserving students at CCCC in a three-county area to help them raise their standard of living. The Foundation is making a difference.”

The entry fee for a foursome is $500, which includes green fees, two mulligans, cart, putting contest, individual prizes and lunch.

Sponsorships for the event are still available:

Register for the Golf Classic no later than Sept. 22. For more information, to register, or to become a sponsor, contact the Foundation office on the college’s Lee County Campus, (919) 718-7231.
