Program Overview

ACCELERATE your college pathway and career at Central Carolina Community College! Central Carolina students have the opportunity to earn the Associate in Arts (University Transfer) degree in just one year and then enter the workforce or transfer your credits to a four-year college to continue your education.

ACCELERATE students must be 100% dedicated to the rigor of the program. Expect excellent, hands-on advising, mentoring, and guidance from experienced professionals about your potential career and college pathways.

Application Process

  • Begin NOW on the Steps to Official Admission into Central Carolina. Make sure to choose "Associate of Arts" as your intended major on your CCCC admission application.
  • To be considered for the program, students must also complete the ACCELERATE application. The Accelerate application includes a short essay (500 words) regarding goals and motivations related to academic and career pursuits. Minimum Accelerate Qualifications

  1. Online referral by high school guidance counselor and/or Central Carolina Works Advisor.
  2. You must be admitted to CCCC as a full-time student.
  3. One of the following:
    • Minimum of 2.6 unweighted High School GPA, four high school math courses, and graduated high school within the past 5 years
    • OR
    • CCCC will evaluate subject-area ACT or SAT scores to determine if student is college ready in math and English using the following scores:


      • ACT Reading 22 or
        ACT English 18
      • SAT Writing 500 or
        SAT Critical Reading 500


      • ACT Math 22
      • SAT Math 500
  4. Strong high school attendance record.
  5. Student and parent/guardian must complete the pledge form with commitment for student to receive room/board (ie: live at home) for the entirety of the program.
  6. Willingness to attend classes on CCCC's Chatham Main Campus.

Preferred Accelerate Qualifications

  • Unweighted High School GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Current/prior enrollment as a Career and College Promise student and earned credit hours towards the Associate in Arts.
  • Foreign language credit from high school or college.

Persistence Guidelines

  • Attend Summer, Fall, and Spring semesters.
  • Secure financial resources to complete program (i.e. FAFSA, self-pay)
  • Meet with personal advisor every semester for registration.
  • Attend all classes in which you are enrolled.
  • Not withdraw from any course without permission from advisor.
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least a 2.0 or above.
  • Attend academic tutoring, as prescribed by advisor.
  • Attend ACCELERATE advisor meetings on a monthly basis, or as prescribed by advisor.
  • Attend all mandatory meetings.
  • Provide current contact information and update staff with any changes.
  • Reply to e-mail and phone messages in a timely manner when contacted by staff.
  • Abide by all institutional policies regarding code of conduct and successful enrollment.


  • Applications will be accepted from October 1st until July 1st
  • Program student/parent interviews: Beginning in February
  • Applicant status notification: February - July
  • Orientation/Financial Aid session: March
  • New Student Orientation will be held during the summer semester (attendance is required).
  • Classes begin: August
