CCCC honors past president, trustees
Oct 31, 2007

SANFORD – President J.F. “Jeff” Hockaday, Stacy Budd and Meigs Golden are names familiar to those who have lived in Lee County for a while or been involved in education in North Carolina. They are also names very familiar in the history of Central Carolina Community College.

On Sunday, the college honors their memories with the unveiling of plaques that recognize their contributions. The public is invited to the Day of Recognition at 3 p.m. in the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center.

Hockaday was the college’s second president, serving from 1969 to 1983, an era of tremendous growth and expansion. Budd was one of the founding trustees of the college, serving as chairman of the board from 1963-1980. He passed away in 1981. Golden, was also a founding trustee, serving from 1963 to 1989, including six years as chairman. He passed away in 2001.

Facilities on the Lee County Campus will be named after them. The Administration Building will become Hockaday Hall and the Continuing Education Building will become Budd Hall. An attractive courtyard with kinetic art has been constructed behind the new Science Building to honor Golden.

“Each of these men worked tirelessly to help CCCC grow into the strong institution that all of us are proud of today,” said CCCC President Matt Garrett.
