CCCC wins N4C Tournament

SANFORD – Michael “Gra” Parker, captain of Central Carolina Community College’s tennis team, brought home the winning trophy from the first North Carolina Community College System N4C Extramural Tennis Tournament, held Sept. 22 at Wayne Community College in Goldsboro.

Parker beat Sandhills Community College’s Sam Stalls, 10-6, in the championship match, battling back from a 0-5 score. Parker won his other matches 10-0, 10-1, and one forfeit.

Thirteen players from Central Carolina, Sandhills, Johnston, Craven and Wayne community colleges competed in the tournament.

Before coming to CCCC, Parker, of Sanford, played three years at Lee County High School, ranking No. 1 in 2006.

Other CCCC players were Chevy Cofield, of Garner, who won two matches, 10-6 and 10-2, and Chris Yarborough, of Siler City.

The N4C will sponsor an extramural Bowling Tournament on Oct. 27 in Monroe, hosted by South Piedmont CC, and a 3v3 Basketball Tournament Nov. 10 at CCCC’s Lee County Campus.
