Harnett CCCC students enjoy Activity Day
SANFORD — Jumping, bouncing, sliding and, of course, eating were on the schedule as students at the Harnett County Campus of Central Carolina Community College enjoyed a break from classes for a few hours of fun at the campus’ Spring Activity Day Thursday.
“It’s great,” said psychology student Maria Chance, of Dunn. “It gives you a chance to get away from things and free your mind to have fun.”
And have fun, they did. The activities at the Student Government Association-sponsored event included a trampoline bungee jump, with students bouncing high and, sometimes, doing somersaults above a trampoline while attached by bungee cords.
The “Adrenaline Rush” slide did just what it’s name says — gave students an adrenaline rush as they crawled through tunnels, climbed a ladder and then slide down an air-filled slide.
“Activity Day is a good time to release stress, be ourselves,” said student Jessica Calcutt, as she climbed off the slide. “For a while, we don’t have to worry about class stuff.”
Calcutt, of Sanford, is a practical nursing student at the Harnett Campus.
One of the favorite events was a dunking booth sponsored by the Phi Beta Lambda business leadership club. Johnny Shull, business administration lead instructor at the Harnett Campus and club advisor, was dunked into the water repeatedly, usually by his students hitting his seat release switch close up with their hand, rather than from a distance with a ball. It was definitely good, clean fun, although a bit chilly for Shull. He didn’t mind, as the club raised $150 to go to their first national competitions, to be held June 23-26 in Chicago.
“Activity Day is good for the morale of students,” Shull said. “It’s good for them to get together and have a good time.”
