Broadway teachers get special treatment
BROADWAY—A few Broadway Elementary teachers got
a break from their typical Monday morning routine this
week. For the better part of an hour, instead of teaching
English, math or history, one teacher from each grade—kindergarten
through fifth—received a lesson in relaxation,
courtesy of the esthetics and skin care program at Central
Carolina Community College (CCCC).
As part of the Broadway Elementary PTO’s Teacher
Appreciation Week, teachers whose names were drawn out
of a hat—Kaycey McLaughlin, kindergarten, Debra
Jackson, first grade, Jennifer Goodwin, second grade,
Shannon Thomas, third grade, Priscilla Brower, fourth
grade, and Jean Williams, fifth grade—received
free facial and skin treatment.
Each of the lucky teachers relaxed to soothing music
while receiving treatment and a massage from CCCC esthetics
students Tanisha Amaral, Jill Bond, Monica Cauch and
Liz Mason.
“
It took about 40 minutes and it was wonderful,” McLaughlin
said. “Much different from teaching kindergarten.”
“
If I could do this every so often, it wouldn’t
be so bad,” she said.
Brower said on a normal Monday morning she would be “teaching
math to a group that doesn’t want to be quiet.” Instead,
she was able to unwind before she started prepping her
students for End-of-Grade testing. “It was relaxing.
I almost went to sleep,” Brower said.
Although Brower said this was her first time receiving
a facial, it will not be her last. “It was excellent.
I’m going to go back.”
She said, because it was so relaxing, she plans to make
it part of her summer schedule. “As soon as I get
out of summer school I’m going to get a facial.”
The PTO also made sure every Broadway Elementary faculty
and staff member received a gift certificate for a free
treatment from the CCCC esthetics clinic.
Anyone can walk-in or schedule an appointment for a facial
from the esthetics and skin care program at CCCC. For
