Weaving, antiques among fall course offerings at CCCC

Pittsboro, NC – Central Carolina Community College is offering a variety of special interest continuing education classes this fall in Chatham County.

If you love making things with your hands, consider enrolling in “Beginning Handweaving.”  This course for beginners introduces students to the timeless art of weaving.  Students will learn how to plan a project, read draft notation, select yarns, and dress looms as well as basic finishing techniques.

The course is offered Tuesdays beginning September 28 and concluding November 16, 2004, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at NC Arts Inc. in Siler City.  Tuition is $65.

A new hands-on course for auctioneers and antique lovers will teach the basics of marketing and identifying antiques.  “Identification and Marketing of Antiques and Collectibles” will expose students to a broad range of antiques to help them identify and market estate items.  Students will learn how to identify markings on antique furniture, pottery, art, quilts, china, prints and more.  This course has been approved, but not sponsored, by the North Carolina Auctioneer Licensing Board for four hours of continuing education credit.

The course is offered Tuesday, September 28, 2004, and Tuesday, October 5, 2004, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the CCCC Chatham County Campus in Pittsboro.  Tuition is $50.

The college is planning more new courses for people who would like to explore the arts or develop their artistic skills.  Courses include “EZ Photo Imaging on Clay,”  “Lidded Forms: An In-depth Study,” “Beginning Stained Glass,” “Oil and Acrylic Painting and “Sand Mold Workshop.”
