“Kudzu” cartoonist to
speak at CCCC
Sanford, NC – Pulitzer Prize winning Cartoonist Doug
Marlette will speak at the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center
in Sanford on Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at 8:00 p.m.
Marlette will give a lecture as part of the North Carolina
Community College Learning Resources Association Conference,
hosted by Central Carolina Community College (CCCC). A
limited number of tickets will be available at $15 each
for those not participating in the conference.
Marlette is known for both his popular comic strip “Kudzu” and for
political cartoons that appear in numerous U.S. newspapers daily. Marlette
is the author of several books including “The Bridge” and “What
Would Marlette Drive?” He co-wrote the screenplay “Ex” with
Pat Conroy and has contributed to national magazines including “The New
Republic” and “Men’s Journal.”
Born in Greensboro, Marlette lived in Durham as well as in Mississippi and Florida. He
graduated from Florida State University in 1972 when he began working for the
Charlotte Observer as a political cartoonist. His achievements include
winning every major award for political cartooning including the Pulitzer Prize
in 1988. Marlette is currently on the staff of the Tallahassee Democrat.
