PITTSBORO - Central Carolina Community College student Carlos Sanchez-Mendez has been selected as the Local Interactions Chair for the North Carolina Comprehensive Community College Student Government Association (N4CSGA).

Sanchez-Mendez, of Siler City, will be chair for the committee to manage the organization's issue/project process.

He says that participating in student government is the best choice he has made. "The SGA has helped me grow as a person," said Sanchez-Mendez. "Participating in these conferences has helped me have a better understanding of other students by listening to their issues in the community college environment, and gives the opportunity to make a difference."

"Carlos is an amazing student! I am so impressed with his determination and optimism," said CCCC Drama & Communications Instructor Ellen Bland.

Sanchez-Mendez, who is in CCCC's college transfer program, says that he saw a flyer regarding the college's Student Government Association. He believed it was a program that could help him and give him leadership training. He became SGA vice president of CCCC's Chatham Campus.

"I hold Carlos in high esteem," said CCCC History Instructor Robert Barnes. "He is diligent in his coursework, and dedicated to his college. His time as the SGA Chatham vice president has been productive, and I look forward to his continued involvement in campus activities."

Barnes points out that Sanchez-Mendez has helped to coordinate a litter cleanup project in Siler City as well as the Chatham Campus Activity Day.

Mike Neal, CCCC's Director of Student Activities, says that Sanchez-Mendez is a student who has made education a priority. "He has taken advantage of every open door he has come to and will be an excellent example of CCCC's product, a quality graduate," said Neal.

Sanchez-Mendez notes that the interaction with the staff has been his favorite experience about attending CCCC. "Everyone in CCCC is always willing to help and if they don't have the answers to my questions they will refer me to someone else right away," he said.

The son of Martha Mendez, he is very complimentary of Central Carolina Community College. "CCCC has great resources to help me be successful," said Sanchez-Mendez. "There are plenty of resources available for the students.

"Central Carolina has given me great opportunities and I'm thankful for everything."
