Basic Law Enforcement Training Graduation

Click to enlarge, Central Carolina Community College's Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) program in Lee County graduated nine cadets in a May 12 ceremony at the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center. The graduates are (front, from left) Andre Lopez, Heather Barrett, Beata Dufresne, Tara Young, and Ronald Szurgot, and (back, from left) Adrian McDaniel, Samuel McLeod, Robert McLean, and Jacob Gardner. The cadets completed 624 hours of law enforcement training, including areas such as criminal and motor vehicle laws, vehicle stops, first responder medical care, firearms training, driver's training, sheriff's duties, and subject control/arrest techniques. Each graduate had to pass all 35 blocks of instruction, a rigorous 12-week physical training program, as well as a four-hour written comprehensive state examination administered by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Division. Office Benson Wise, of the Sanford Police Department's Selective Enforcement Unit, was the graduation guest speaker. Officer Wise is a combat veteran who served with the 18th Airborne Corps. He graduated from CCCC's BLET program in 2004 and earned an A.A.S. in Criminal Justice at the college in 2008.
