CCCC holds BLET program graduation

SANFORD - Sixteen Central Carolina Community College Basic Law Enforcement Training cadets graduated during Dec. 20 exercises at the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center, with one of those graduates honored posthumously.

The graduation certificate for class member William Brown was presented to his family. Brown died in an automobile accident on Dec. 15. Lee County Sheriff Tracy Carter presented to William Brown's family an Honorary Deputy Sheriff designation in his honor.

Members of the graduating day class were Demetrix Allen, Alexander Bennett, William Brown, Veronica Campbell, Shawn Cronin, Donald Dunlap, Jacob Foil, Kristopher Higgins, Kamaria Hooker, Mandy Leon, Robert Otis, Ivan Rincon, Jaime Rizzuto, David Schau, Kaitlin Shaver, and Robert Smith.

Several of the graduates were recognized for outstanding achievement during their training. Recognized from the class were: Most Improved Physical Fitness - David Schau; Fastest Police Officers Physical Abilities Test (POPAT) - Chase/ Apprehension - Kristopher Higgins; Fastest Police Officers Physical Abilities Test (POPAT) - Rescue - William Brown; Jimmy Collins Top Gun Award - Jacob Foil; Highest Course Grade Point Average - Jacob Foil; and Highest State Exam - Robert Smith.

Officer Benson D. Wise, of the City of Sanford Police Department, delivered the graduation remarks. Robert Smith presented the class response.

The college's BLET program is under the direction of Robert Powell.

Sponsoring agencies for the class were Chatham Central High School, Broadway Police Department, Chatham County Sheriff's Office, Dunn Police Department, Harnett County Sheriff's Office, Holly Springs Police Department, Lee County Sheriff's Office, Lillington Police Department, Moore County Sheriff's Office, Sanford Police Department, and Siler City Police Department.
