SANFORD - Central Carolina Community College golf coach Jonathan Hockaday is looking for an improved team this fall.

"We are really looking forward to this upcoming season. I expect us to be an improved team this year," said Hockaday, who is entering his fourth season as head coach.

The highlights from last year included Anthony Johnson winning first-place individually at the Autumn Leaves Invitational and a fourth-place finish in the Fall Regionals. In addition, the Cougars finished third in the Cougar Classic.

"We have added several talented freshman to a group of solid returning players. We are going to be very competitive within our own team and I expect that players will step up because of that competition," said Hockaday, who will be assisted by first-year assistant coach Jack Radley, a former CCCC player. "We look forward to winning some golf tournaments and competing for a conference championship."

CCCC has three sophomores and six freshmen on this year's team.

The sophomores are Jacob Chisler (Lillington, Cape Fear Christian Academy), Dillon Fail (Spring Lake, Overhills High School), and Tyler North (Sanford, Lee County High School). Chisler led the CCCC team in scoring last year.

The six freshmen are Chris Brown (Sanford, Lee County High School), Logan Horner (Anchorage, Alaska, Home School), Cody Law (Ramseur, Eastern Randolph High School), Ben Myatt (Spring Lake, Overhills High School), Branson Raynor (Coats, Triton High School), and David Smith (Siler City, Jordan-Matthews High School).

The schedule:

Sept. 17-18 -- at Eagles Cup (Eagle Ridge Golf Club, Garner); Oct. 2-3 -- Cougar Classic (Anderson Creek Golf Club); Oct. 7-8 -- at Autumn Leaves Invitational (Mt. Airy); Oct. 29-30 -- Sandhills Invitational (Whispering Pines CC, Whispering Pines), Nov. 4-6 -- at Fall Regional (River Falls Plantation, Duncan, S.C.).
