Scholarship honors long-time CCCC employee, deceased son

Linda Spivey (second from right), employment specialist in the Human Resources Department at Central Carolina Community College, retired in December after a 33-year career with the college. In her honor, the CCCC President's Council and the college's chapter of the North Carolina Association of Educational Office Professionals established the Walter D. Spivey Memorial Scholarship with the CCCC Foundation. Walter, the son of Linda and David Spivey, graduated from the college. He was the owner and operator of Mid-Carolina Electric Co., in Sanford, when he passed away in 2010. Linda served under four of the college's five presidents and helped found the CCCC EOP in 1983. She has been an officer in the organization at the college, regional and state level, including state president in 2009-10. She was honored as the local and District 7 Educational Office Professional of the Year in 1992-93 and 2004-05. She was also honored as the District 7 EOPY for 2010-11 and received the organization's President's Award. Linda is a graduate of Sanford Business College and CCCC.
