CCCC hosts emergency exercise event

06.11.2019 • College & Community, College General

SANFORD - Central Carolina Community College hosted an active assailant drill on Friday, May 24, at the CCCC Lee Main Campus in Sanford.

CCCC President Dr. Lisa M. Chapman was an observer at the event, as was CCCC Vice President of Administrative Services Dr. Phillip Price. Members of the CCCC faculty and staff were participants in the exercise.

"I am so appreciative of the commitment and dedication of our local public safety leadership," said Dr. Chapman. "While I am saddened that today's world requires us to engage in exercises such as active shooter drills, the safety of our college students and employees is paramount and we are thankful for the expertise and passion of our local response teams."

Frank R. Bedoe Sr., CCCC Director of Campus Security and Safety, noted that the drill tested the college's procedures, the skills of the responding emergency personnel, and how they work together as a cohesive unit.

"I would like to thank Dr. Chapman for her support as well as the faculty/staff who volunteered their time to participate in this important exercise. I would also like to thank the following emergency responders -- Sanford Police Department, N.C. State Highway Patrol, Sanford Fire Department, and Emergency Medical Services at Central Carolina Hospital," said Bedoe. "I would also thank the Lee County Emergency Services personnel as they also were involved in the planning for this exercise. I would like to give Captain W.C. Genthe, of the Sanford Police Department, a special thanks as he helped coordinate the emergency responders as well as overseeing the actual exercise."
