Recyclable materials couldn't hide on Central Carolina Community College's Chatham County Campus, in Pittsboro, on America Recycles Day, Nov. 15. Students carried out a 'trash dive' to discover what is being thrown away that could be recycled. Checking the trash for recyclables are (from left) Catherine Gessner, of Cary; Laura Lauffer, CCCC Sustainability coordinator and lead instructor for Sustainability Technologies; Sarah Munson, of Pittsboro; and Marianne Lewis, of Southern Pines. America Recycles Day was established in 1997 to encourage people to recycle 365 days a year. Sponsored by the nonprofit Keep America Beautiful, it is the only nationally recognized day dedicated to encouraging Americans to recycle and to use recycled products.
