CCCC-Harnett celebrates college's 50th

Five teams competed in the June 2 Barbecue Cook-off at Central Carolina Community College's Harnett County Campus. The winner was David Whittenton (right), of Dunn. The judges described his barbecue as 'most tender; tasty but not overpowering.' The Cook-off was part of the college's 50th Anniversary Celebration in Harnett. Close in the competition were (from left) Eddie Who's BBQ team of Jeff Blackman, of Lillington, and Eddie Stanley, of Benson; Robert Baggett (back), of Lillington, of the Nothing Butt Luv'n team; Gary Hughes, of the Angier team; and Mark Byrd, of Coats.

Belinda Cummings, of Harnett County, won the bidding for a handsome bulletin board clock at the Central Carolina Community College Foundation Furniture Auction June 2 at the college's Harnett County Campus. The Auction was part of the college's 50th Anniversary Celebration, commemorating its start in 1961 in Lee County and its expansion into Harnett in 1965. Auctioneer Ricky Wicker (back right) kept the bidding going, which raised about $28,000. Most of the proceeds will be used for scholarships for Harnett CCCC students. All items in the Auction were made by the college's carpentry and welding students at Harnett Correctional Institution.

Thirteen-year-old Josh Currin (left), of Mamers, gets a description of how an aluminum cutout of the Peanuts cartoon dog Snoopy was made in the college's Machining Technology Department. The department was part of the college's 50th Anniversary Celebration June 2 at the Harnett County Campus, commemorating its start in 1961 in Lee County and its expansion into Harnett in 1965.

The 12th Annual Central Carolina Community College Foundation Furniture Auction June 2 at the college's Harnett County Campus drew an overflow crowd of almost 200. The Auction was part of the college's 50th Anniversary Celebration in Harnett, commemorating its start in 1961 in Lee County and its expansion into Harnett in 1965. Auctioneer Ricky Wicker (back right) kept the bidding going. The Auction raised about $28,000. Most of the proceeds will be used for scholarships for Harnett CCCC students. The hair trim was one of the services offered to visitors during the college's 50th Anniversary Celebration June 2 at the Harnett County Campus. The event commemorated its start in 1961 in Lee County and its expansion into Harnett in 1965. Warren, a Certified Nurse Aide, graduated from the CNA program at the Harnett Campus in 1998.
