Pittsboro potter Mark Hewitt and his wife, Carol, have weatherized their 1890 home to greatly increase its energy efficiency, including the recent installation (pictured) of a 10kw solar photovoltaic array with a battery backup. The solar array produces all the  electricity for the house. The Hewitt home and solar array can be seen between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16. It is one of several on the self-guided tour of energy efficient Chatham County homes that is part of Central Carolina Community College’s Celebrate Green Central 2010 Trade Show and Home Tour at the college’s Chatham County Campus, 764 West St., Pittsboro. Maps for the free tour are available during trade show hours, 5 p.m.-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16.
