The intent of this home was to show that a common home with some attention to key details could achieve a much higher percent of its comfort and efficiency, etc potential such that it would end up being a very high performance home. It was designed and built to show that a really wonderful home does not need to utilize exotic or expensive measures. One specific item was the use of very inexpensive windows to demonstrate that a home could perform well even without high end windows.

Energy efficiency meets elegant design in this new high performance solar home! The one story open floorplan, with attached garage and full basement, lives like a typical mainstream home yet has estimated operating costs of only $86/month. Good design, attention to detail during construction, an air tight insulation package and active solar systems make this new home as efficient as it is beautiful!
The house will be under construction during the tour but the ten inch, double-stud construction and over-all integration of details makes it a very exciting home to see especially as it will be still in framing during the tour. We are using a very affordable and rugged slab edge detail with termite flashing poured into the edge of the concrete and three inches of blue board around the edge and under the concrete. We'll have a structured plumbing system for more efficient and fast hot water delivery, the split heat pump water heaters are new to the US market (not a tank-top heat pump water heater) and have not been used much for grid tie solar radiant on the east coast.
