The CCCC Green Building and Sustainable Technologies Program will be hosting the "2011 Celebrating Green Central" event October 14-15th. The purpose of the Celebration is to highlight the Sustainable Technology program at CCCC and local green homes and businesses providing the community with information about local resources to increase energy efficiency and renewable energy in their homes and businesses. The event also includes tours of the Sustainable Technology labs and presentations by instructors and local experts. There are no fees, registration is not required.
The kickoff and reception will be at the Chatham Community Library from 5-8pm on Friday the 14th. Celebrating the Season of regional foods from the Natural Chef kitchen and tastings from the Sustainable Agriculture Program's pizza oven will be featured events on Friday night.
This free evening event will be in conjunction with Trade Show featuring local green businesses that focus on building, energy efficiency, renewable energy and green products for the home.
This year, the kickoff will also launch the Sustainable Student Awards featuring art and essays from Chatham County students. On Saturday, the trade show will continue, highlighting local businesses that contribute to our local green, sustainable community will take place in the library from 9am-2pm. Visitors can also learn about sustainable technologies from local experts in the Sustainable Technology building on Saturday from 9-12. Topics include solar thermal and solar electric for the homeowner, DIY weatherization, and a tour of the sustainable technologies labs. No registration is necessary.
Home Tours will be ONLY on Saturday, October 15 from 10am - 4pm. Tour goers can pick up tour maps at the Trade Show or find them online and visit the trade show before heading to the tour. Homes will feature green design, water saving strategies, renewable energy applications and creative re-use of materials.
