Big Rig Rescue™ & Big Lift University

Accidents involving tractor-trailers and other large vehicles call for specialized knowledge and skills on the part of emergency responders.

That's why they come to Central Carolina Community College's Emergency Services Training Center. The Center provides a wide variety of specialty training, including Big Rig Rescue™ and Big Lift University. These two courses are designed for emergency response agency members who have prior experience in vehicle extrication.

The BRR™ and BLU offer hands-on scenarios that rescuers meet in their work: fully loaded tractor-trailers, cement mixers, tank trucks, and railroad tank cars involved in vehicle overturns, over-rides, and under-rides.

They provide emergency responders with extensive hands-on and classroom training in the use of tow trucks, hydraulics, rescue jacks, cribbing, and airbag systems to lift and stabilize heavy vehicles during realistic vehicle extrication scenarios.

Responders come for these unique training exercises from the college's service area of Chatham, Lee, and Harnett counties, as well as from fire and rescue departments from around the state and nation. The classes meet all day Saturday and Sunday on selected weekends during the spring and fall semesters. Both were developed by Billy Leach, the senior presenter.

If you want to greatly improve your knowledge and hands-on skills in specialized vehicle rescue operations using real-life scenarios and equipment, enroll in Big Rig Rescue™ and Big Lift University.
