College and Career Readiness
(formerly Adult Education)
Overview
Central Carolina Community College's College & Career Readiness program has a three-fold mission:
- Assist adults in becoming literate and obtaining knowledge and skills for employment and self-sufficiency
- Assist parents in obtaining educational skills to become full partners in their children's education
- Assist adults in the completion of a secondary school education
The college carries out this mission by providing educational opportunities for adults in reading, writing, mathematics, and communication skills through the following programs:
Adult Basic Education
The purpose of Adult Basic Education is to raise the basic educational levels of individuals to meet the demands of today's world.
High School Completion Programs
Anyone 16 years of age or older, who has been out of school at least six months, may enroll in either the General Educational Development (GED) diploma or the Adult High School diploma program.
- The GED program prepares students to pass tests in writing, social studies, science, reading, and mathematics. Passing the tests demonstrates mastery of the basic skills of a high school graduate.
- In the Adult High School program, students earn units of credit to complete their high school curriculum and receive a diploma issued by a board of education.
